  • I loved this new voting system where you ranked everyone!
Great, then you used the contest the way I wanted it used: as a method of learning about and actually considering the hotness factor of LOTS of guys on soaps, not just the one you already knew about and came here to fanwank for.

  • I HATED this new voting system where you ranked everyone!
"Why should I have to rate some guy I have never heard of before?" got asked a lot. Here's why: you don't have to "know" somebody to be able to look at some pictures of him and figure out whether you think he is good-looking. This method of ranking was as close as I could get to forcing you to look at all the guys.

  • What does the winner get?
Nothing material except bragging rights and hopefully some good publicity. Oh, and should he choose to accept it, a big sloppy wet kiss from me. Winners, show up shirtless in my bedroom to collect, please.

  • Did any of the finalists attend this year's results shows?
I believe that Brandon Beemer (3rd place) showed up incognito a few times.

  • What soaps are you watching these days?
OLTL is the only show I record daily right now, and I just about always  actually watch it. Even with its flaws, the gang in Llanview are still delivering the overall-best soap experience these days, for my money. I still miss the wall-to-wall, non-stop shirtlessness of PASSIONS, though.

  • Why wasn't my favorite soap hunk, (fill-in-the-blank), included?
I get this one every year. Check here to see if your guy was in the original pool of 32 semifinalists. If your guy didn't make it from that pool, blame the voters. If he wasn't among that group of 32, blame me.

  • Who were the judges that picked the wildcards?
Same as last year. I went with the two people who contribute more pics to my site than anybody else: superherofan, the awesome capper who just started his own site at superherofan.net; and DaveId, the founder of Dreamcaps. We judges all give you voters raspberries, though, as you voted our picks out 1-2-3. DaveId's pick, John-Paul Lavoisier, finished 10th; mine of Mark Lawson nabbed 11th; and superherofan's Jake Silbermann made this two years running that his choice was the first finalist to be shown the door. Are you folks trying to get him to quit?! Sorry, supes.

  • Did the finalists know about Adonis 2008?
The ones I keep in contact with did (Beemer and Lawson). I am sure most of the other guys know about it as well, thanks to their rabid fan clubs.

  • Who did you expect to win?
James Scott has won far too many consecutive contests at my site for me to bet against him anymore. I did think the new ranking system would make it a tighter race, and it did.

  • Who did you want to win?
Mark Lawson would have been my first choice, followed closely by Brandon Beemer.

  • What was the biggest surprise for you in this year's contest?
A couple of things. I correctly guessed that the ranking system would make the races much closer, but I did not expect how unmovable this system would prove to be. With very few exceptions, each week saw the next-to-last guy from the previous week ejected with very little shake-up or surprise. There were a couple of surprises (Steve Burton and James Scott's sudden appearances in the Bottom Three and Two, respectively), but jaw-droppers were rare in the Adonis 2008 chat room.

  • I liked when I used to be able to vote 1,000 times!
Not to worry. Each ranking submission was counted as 1,000 votes.

  • I stuffed the ballot box. Did my ballots get deleted?
Of course. I am annually amazed at how many people think I won't catch this.

  • I voted 10 times in a row with different e-mail addresses from the same computer. Did my votes get deleted?
See answer to previous question. (What did you think that acknowledgement statement on the ballot that you wouldn't do that meant?)

  • Will there be an Adonis 2009?
I always say "we'll see," and I always end up doing it.

  • What's next?
Nominations for the 10th Annual Soaphunks.net awards will be announced in mid-to-late November, with voting beginning on Dec. 1. Until then, check out the history of the previous nine years of voting here.
